SEDS, the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, is a group dedicated to expanding the role of human exploration and development of space. We seek to educate the public in such a way as to attain this goal. We have many ways of doing this, including educational outreach, conferences, and chapter projects.

Congratulations to SpaceX

Posted - July 13th, 2009

Congratulations to SpaceX, Elon Musk, and the numerous SEDS alumni working for SpaceX. Once again you have put the rock into Rocket Science.

The satellite successfully achieved orbit, separated from the launch vehicle, turned on, and communicated with Earth.

Clear skies and good luck with Falcon 9!

The (third) best place to watch a launch.

Posted - June 12th, 2009

So we all know that the best place to watch a shuttle launch is inside the shuttle.

The second best place to watch a launch is from the Cape.

Where's the third best place you may ask?

Right on your computer at:
http://www.spacevidcast.com/live/

The folks at Spacevidcast run THE BEST live feed of the shuttle launches, and space events in general. Much better than NASA TV. PLUS there is a live chat with hundreds of space enthusiasts.

So this launch, skip out on CNN cutting to commercials at T-5. Go to Spacevidcast.com!

NOVA Newsletter Q1 2009

Posted - March 2nd, 2009

SEDS!

Hello and Welcome! The first edition of the NOVA Newsletter for this year is ready. You can find it at www.seds.org/communication/NOVA_Q1_2009.pdf . It has been a long time since the last publication, and a project that the SEDS E-Board felt was important to keep everyone connected. The purpose of the NOVA is to increase awareness of the happenings of other SEDS Branches, and to increase the brotherhood that SEDS members have. So take a minute, read the NOVA. If you see something not in there, or you would like to help with the next edition, feel free to send an email to publications@seds.org.
Enjoy!

Onwards and Upwards,

UBSEDS December '08 Chapter Report

Posted - January 7th, 2009

Our Chapter sent 5 members from the University at Buffalo to the SpaceVision '08 conference, where they were able to meet many individuals who are influential in the space community. While in attendance, UBSEDS was given the Best New Chapter Award. Members of our chapter, especially those who attended SpaceVision 2008, are looking forward to next year's conference. We are also planning on sending members to the ASX Toronto event in January.

We will also be holding a Yuri's Night meeting in order to plan and prepare for UB's upcoming Yuri's Night Celebration in April 2009.

We are also looking into freeing up some lab space in a building on campus which is to be utilized for many of our clubs project groups, including the construction of a BattleBot for UB's E-week.

UBSEDS is also working on developing fundraising ideas in order to generate revenue. We are also in the midst of creating a logo for SEDS clothing and other merchandise, to be displayed at various SEDS events and functions, or in general, to promote a further knowledge of the SEDS organization to non-members.

Finally, our president, was able to compile a list of past SEDS members for the National SEDS Database.

Our meeting times for the Spring '09 Semester will be altered to accommodate as many members schedules as possible, and therefore will be tentatively changed from Mondays at 5 pm, to Thursdays at 6:30 pm.
