Logo Design Contest

SEDS is looking for a new logo! The Executive Board of SEDS-USA has started a contest to let members of the SEDS community design a new logo. This logo will be used all over SEDS, on the website, on business cards, on letterhead, on t-shirts, on promotional and informational materials.

Submission Timeline:

• March 28, 2004: Contest started.
• April 30, 2004, 11:59PM CST: Submissions due.
• May 3, 2004 - May 10, 2004: Voting.
• May 11, 2004 - May 13, 2004: Executive Board approval.
• May 14, 2004: Winner announced.

Design Guidelines:

• Graphic must be readable when printed at 3"x3" and 1"x1", both at 300dpi and 72dpi.
• The letters "SEDS" must be included.
• The words "Students for the Exploration and Development of Space" are optional, and in fact are discouraged. They will be rendered as text on most materials and should not be part of the image. However, you are welcome to make suggestions concerning how that text is displayed with the logo.
• The graphic must be able to be printed in a single color (black), without grayscale. Dithering is fine.
• The logo will be in color on the website, and in some promotional materials. Solid colors are always better than gradients in such applications (for color coordination).
• Try to stay away from dated images, such as the Space Shuttle or the CEV.

Submission Guidelines:

• All entries must be in electronic format. If your logo was not designed/drawn on a computer, please scan it in and clean it up. If you are unable to do this, please find someone who can.
• Submissions must be in one of the following formats:
  • Photoshop (.psd)
  • Tag Image File Format (.tif)
  • Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)
  • Graphics Interchange Format (.gif)
  Photoshop and TIF are much preferred.
• One entry per person. If you submit more than once, your latest submission will be used in the contest.
• When submitting, please send three versions, all 3"x3" at 72dpi: white background, black background, and transparent background.
• Email submissions (as attachments) to <,kdwelch@ae.uiuc.edu>. In the body of the email, you must include:
  • Full name
  • Year in school
  • Home city/state (and country, if not from the U.S.)
  • SEDS Chapter Affiliation
