Special Note: "Susanna Hoffs" was several years in the making. If you count the recording sessions for her second Columbia album, her official sophomore release has been in production since 1993. In the spring of 1995, London Records had planned on releasing an earlier incarnation of this album. The early record contained very different versions of many of the songs that ended up on the final product, along with a drastically different version of "All I Want." However, the mix quality was far from what Susanna and the folks at London Records were looking for at the time. The decision was made to switch direction, and Susanna hired Jack Joseph Puig to "finish" the album. Some tracks were re-cut, others remixed and additional material was recorded. A recording of the original "rough mix" is rumored to exist somewhere....
4. Susanna Hoffs (Untitled album 2000)
Executive Producer: Bill Bottrell
Produced by Dan Schwartz, Susanna Hoffs
*Original production by Susanna Hoffs, Charlotte Caffey and Tom Caffey.
Label: Sire/London Records
Release Date: Album remains on hold.
Susanna Hoffs started working on this project in late 1997 following her summer promotional tour for "Susanna Hoffs." This album appears to have been recorded in phases, much like it's predecesor. Susanna apparently recorded a ton of demos with Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin with Char's brother, Tom Caffey at the board. In 1998, she hooked up with several of the players from her last release, Dan Schwartz, Brian MacLeod, Jim Keltner, Bill Bottrell along with newcomers Gregg Arreguin and Willie Aron to write and record more material. Work on this album was haulted in the spring of 2000 due to delays forced on the project by the Segrams/Polygram merger that year. In addition, the ongoing Bangles reunion was getting serious and the decision was made to spend more time working on material and logistics for the new Bangles album. Some of these songs are slated to appear on The Bangles' forthcoming new album, DOLL REVOLUTION. As for the others, we will have to wait and see...
The list of songs here is partially complete. They were in the process of working up at least three or four other songs before work was halted. As it is always the case, it is likely that had the project gone forth, not all of these would have made the final cut. Hopefully, Susanna will release these treasures someday for the world to hear... (** Special thanks go to Dan Schwartz, the record's producer for the track list.)

1. It is a little known fact that Susanna Hoffs, in her recording sessions for the "Susanna Hoffs" album, worked on a few songs with Dave Stewart(Eurythmics) in the producer's chair. One of these was a duet version of "To Sir With Love," (featuring Dave Stewart on vocals) which was slated to go out as the second single in the UK, and a possible third single in the US. Alas, London Records desided to shelve it instead. (Source: Banglemania fanzine interview).
2. Matt Wallace was not the original producer of the 1994 album. Turns out Susanna started recording with Chuck Plotkin (Phil Collins) but only got as far as recording two songs before she decided to finish the album with Wallace.(Source: Tell Me #2 interview).
3. It turns out that 1994 album WAS supposed to have 13 tracks, not 11 as wildly reported. Susanna was going to add two more songs to the list, "Old Boyfriend" and "Easy Way Out." Both songs were written by Susanna with Eric Lowen and Dan Navarro and both were going to be recorded in the studio, but Sue left Columbia before she could record them. (Special thanks to Dan Navarro for the info!) "Old Boyfriend" has been retitled "Do To Me What You Will" however, and appears on Lowen & Navarro's "Scratch At The Door" album.
4. While working on her solo career, in turns out that Susanna Hoffs has another band! While Susanna's husband was working on directing the first Austin Powers film, Susanna had become chummy with Mike Myers. Mathew Sweet was a mutual friend of theirs. It wasn't long before the trio were hanging out together, watching old B- movies. It was during one of those fun movie sessions that they had an idea about forming a band. Together with Steward Johnson and Chris Ward, both musicians in Mathew Sweet's touring band they started writing songs together. Eventually, they had 10 songs in the can. They recorded "BBC" for the AP soundtrack and recorded additional backgroup cues and instrumentals for the movie. The "band" also appears in "flash freeze frame" images over the course of the first AP movie. Additional Ming Tea material also found it's way into the AP sequel Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. The band formally appears in Austin Powers In GoldMember, performing another brand new song, "Daddy Wasn't There."
So will Ming Tea ever record an album? Only the core members know that answer....
